Since Oxford Photo Walk is very new, I bet you’re wondering how it all started? Well, let me answer that question for you…
New Challenges
Over the last year I had the fantastic opportunity to spend a year in Vienna working with the talented and inspiring women’s portrait photographer, Carola Moon, at Rolaa Photography. But if that wasn’t enough of a challenge and a change from my previous marketing job in Publishing, I also decided to take on the running of Vienna Photo Walk (VPW).
VPW was founded by Carola back in November 2013, before I then took it over in August 2015. The aim of VPW was (and still is) to create an English-speaking photography community, with a focus on learning, sharing and having fun while exploring Vienna with likeminded local photographers on regular photo walks. Over the years, the group has grown from strength to strength, with now over 500 members!
I really enjoyed being a part of VPW as it was a great way to meet people and to see the city. On moving back to Oxford, I therefore decided that it would be really fun to set up a similar group. And so, following this model, Oxford Photo Walk (OPW) was born!
Vienna Photo Walk meets Oxford Photo Walk
Last weekend I was delighted to be visited by my good friend Ally – my former fellow co-ordinator and now leader of VPW. I think it’s always great to show people around ‘your’ city, as it gives you the chance to slow down, and to re-connect with what you love (and sometimes what you don’t love!) about where you live.
Ally’s just posted a blog on www.viennaphotowalk.com where she reflects on her visit and shares some thoughts on what she thinks OPWers can look forward to capturing on future walks. So, if you’re intrigued (and want to see some beautiful photos of Oxford, Bath and the Cotswolds) go take a look at Ally’s blog. I’m sure it’ll make you fall in love with Oxford all over again!
And of course, if you ever fancy a trip to Vienna, then going on a photo walk would be a great way to see the city and meet some friendly local English-speakers, so do keep our big sister group in mind! 🙂
